Litter Bugs

We got to do a fun challenge in the library today to learn about recycling and Earth Day! Each of the kids made "litter bugs," creatures out of all kinds of recycled materials!

Friday Folders

If you are a field trip volunteer, you will get a specific letter in your child's Friday folder this week! Look for times we are leaving and additional information. If you do not have this letter, but think you should be listed as a volunteer, please let me know.

Also look for your child's opinion writing on a pet they would like to have. We have been reading some fun mentor texts this week and are working on supporting our opinion with reasons. There is a blank letter attached to your child's writing for you to respond to them and send back for the class to hear!

Color Run Update

The Color Run is today, Friday, April 27! The race will begin at 5:00 pm.  If you have not registered you are still welcome to come!  New participate registration (anyone who wants to participate but did not preregister) will begin at 4:30.  Please remember all students should be accompanied by an adult.  Be sure to wear clothes you are comfortable getting sprayed with liquid and powder color.  There are no extra shirts for late registrations.

Hokulia Shaved Ice will be present for racers and volunteers to purchase shaved ice after the race so don’t forget your money.  We are expecting nice weather and hope to see you there!

Field Day

Parents, Our class will be participating in Field Day on May 16 from 10:20-12:00!  Coach Bowers needs two parent volunteers from each class to help run stations. The station our class is in charge of is Leap the Creek! (see below for game description). Our class will begin field day with this station, so I will be helping you become familiar with the game.  Please send me an e-mail if you are available to volunteer.   Thank you in advance!

STATION #5 - Leap the CreekAll students are in a single file line. Two jump ropes are placed approx. 3 feet apart. The area between the ropes represents the creek. Students will take turns leaping over the creek without touching the ropes or landing in the creek. After everyone has had a turn, the ropes are moved further apart, and the creek becomes larger. If a student does land in the creek, they become creek guards, helping watch for anyone who may land in the creek.

Beautiful Day

We made the most of the nice day we were given today and did some of our work outside! We practiced our spelling words with chalk on the sidewalk and brought our writing journals outside for some free writing time!

FIELD TRIP INFORMATION

Our field trip on May 4th to Runge Nature Center is coming up quickly! I only have 3 parent volunteers who have completed the background check application AND have been approved.

I have the following parents attending the field trip:

Clint Shryock

Cara Little

Kelli Shaon

Please email me if you are interested in volunteering and are not included on this list, or if you are on the list and are unable to attend. We need at least 6 parent volunteers to be able to go on the field trip! Parents will meet at school at 8:30 to drive to Jefferson City. You will be leading a few students around the trails, including your own child. Thank you for volunteering in advance! This is a trip the kids always enjoy and remember.
